Scottish Golf Show

It's that time of year again when the great and good of Scottish Golf put their wares on display to tempt us golfers into buying the latest golf related gadgets and gear which are new for this season.

The Scottish Golf Show has been running for five years and shows no signs of being hit by the recent problems in the economy judging by the number of exhibitors that are taking a stand this year. There are the usual mix of stalls showing equipment, holidays and clothing. I also noticed that Land Rover have a stand as well - maybe they are about to get into the golf buggy market - a buggy with 4 wheel drive could come in very handy on some of the hilly Scottish courses.

I'd also like to give a special mention to Purestrike Putters who are exhibiting at the show - their stand is well worth a visit, given that they have agreed to take some Hidden Gems flyers to the event!

My favourite part of the show is always the trick shots and they have Dave Edwards along again this year - probably the best in the business when it comes to entertaining the crowds with his patter, wacky collections of clubs and shots. If you're feeling really brave he usually gets the crowd involved - hitting a shot from a tee peg in someone's mouth.

Prices for admission start at £8 for juniors up to £25 for a family of four which is not bad value as it will get you a free lesson with one of the professionals who will be manning the driving range which is pretty good value.

The event will be held from the 26th - 28th of March at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) with doors open from 9.30am-5pm. The location is well served by public transport as there is a train station at the SECC (just get a westbound train from Glasgow Central low level and it takes about 5 minutes) which means you don't have to take your car into Glasgow City Centre and battle with weekend football traffic.

Unfortunately I won't make it along this year (mores the pity as my brother still has his student card and could have got us cheap tickets) but I hope you will all be able to make it along and support this flagship event for Scottish Golf.
